I live in… Reykjavik, Iceland with my mum and my little brother. It’s a small city with a low population so it’s easy to get around and everyone kind of knows everyone so it’s a small community. I love living here and I can’t complain about much, except maybe the cold weather. I am currently at college studying humanities and I just finished my third year.
Being a teenager is… It’s great! Yes you have more responsibilities, but you also have more freedom so you can basically do whatever you want.
Issues facing teenagers today are… The biggest problem teenagers face today is social media and the major impact it has on our lives. Social media and everything that comes with it appeals to teenagers, but it often sends out the wrong message, especially in terms of stereotypes. I think this means that as teenagers, or young people, we feel obliged to follow certain expectations in terms of looks, and behaviour. But the truth is, we shouldn’t have to at all. We should be able to form our own opinions and just be who we are.
My ambitions are… Well, I love working with people and helping others so in the future I definitely see myself working overseas, perhaps for a charity, or for a humanitarian organisation.
Things or experiences? Experiences definitely matter to me more to me than material things because experiences tach you valuable lessons and create precious memories.
My concerns for the future are… I’m very eco-friendly so sometimes I worry about what the earth will be like in the future if no action is taken regarding the environmental care and welfare of our planet.
When I’m not at school… My friends and I do all sorts of stuff; we chill, party, go for walks (sometimes even a hike) and we also love going to concerts and music festivals.
Is the future bright? Yes, I think my generation in a way has/is offered way more opportunities than my parent’s generation so I can have just as good a life as they have. And in Iceland generally people have the opportunity to live a very good life. We don’t face any boundaries whatsoever so I consider myself to be very lucky.
For guidance I turn to… If I need guidance with anything, I turn to my mother. She is always willing to help me and gives the best advice. My mother has always been there for me. She’s a big part of my life and has always been able to provide me with everything I’ve ever needed. Both of my parents are very supportive.
I look up to… My mother, she’s always been my role model. She is a talented and successful photographer and I very much admire her accomplishments.
Friends are… My closest friends are extremely important to me. We share everything with eachother and are there to help eachother out, no matter what the problem is.
