What happens when legendary designer Issey Miyake is inspired by super-architect Frank Gehry? This bag. The Lucent Tote is made in Japan for the Museum of Modern Art’s in-house shop, and has a very particular genus. The impetus feels like the European side to Gehry’s work – curving sheets of glass at interesting angles, construction impossible to fathom. Issey Miyake has taken this concept and miniaturised it. Shiny PVC panels, split into triangles, make up a bag that can be carried by hand or over the shoulder, thanks to adjustable straps. And it looks pretty clever, too.
