Somerset House, a beautiful neoclassical building in the heart of London, is one of the best settings for a winter skate session. The ice-rink is in the courtyard so from whatever angle you end up, you’ll see some beauty. For children, there are Polar Bear stabilizers (exclusive to this rink). Or go at night to skate by the light of the illuminations, followed by mulled wine in the Skate Lounge. If an après-ski cocktail is more your thing, there’s the cosy Fortnum’s Lodge: Fortnum & Mason are partners this year, which means a beautiful pop-up Christmas Arcade, a mini version of the Piccadilly store, too. If you have the energy, go on one of the proper club nights – great DJs, a real eclectic mix of music, and plenty of excuses to sit down. Open until 11 January 2015.
Tickets from £7.50; club nights £17 (plus booking); somersethouse.org.uk
